Haworth's 1940's Weekend

As most of you will probably already know, it's getting to that time of year again,

1940's weekend is nearly upon us!

That's right, it's almost time for a blast back into the past as we celebrate and commemorate the era that was, the 1940's. This is just a quick reminder for you guys to dig out your service uniform's, red lipstick, or both and come and join us for another year of jam packed (literally, jam packed) fun!

So, why don't you join us and take a step back in time to experience a weekend like no other. With a Vintage Fair, Veteran Display's, our annual Flypast and so much more, it's a weekend you can't afford to miss.

Just remember, whilst you're experiencing everything that Haworth has to offer from the 17th-18th May, don't forget to pop in to the Old White Lion for a bite to eat, drink, and great company!

Fancy a Pint? Haworth Beer Festival 2014

As I mentioned in my last post The Old White Lion is situated in the heart of all that Haworth has to offer. And over the next few months there are heaps of fun things you need to get yourselves involved in!

One of these being Haworth's annual Beer Festival...

This will be the third year that Haworth is hosting the much loved Beer Festival and it's only getting better! The festival is running from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th and there's no doubt that it will be a jam packed weekend full of exciting events and over 30 real ales, ciders and perrys for you to experience.

The weekend will kick off on Thursday with a traditional Pub Quiz like no other at 9pm. It is being described as 'the Superquiz' and with the prize being £100 for winners, I can see why. But don't worry, everyone's a winner with a free Pie and Peas supper, yum!

The second day of this unmissable festival is running from 5pm til midnight and will be giving a warm welcome to all of you beer lovers! With a combination of great beer and great company, what more could you ask for?

And then, Saturday is here for a more family friendly occasion with children welcome during the afternoon. There will be locally produced food being served throughout the day from the Festival Cafe, so why not come along to grab yourself a bite to eat and drink?

Sound appealing? Well all of this can be found in the Old School Rooms, and with £3 entry for the weekend, you have no excuse to not join us for great beer, great company and amazing scenery!

My First Post and Old White Lion Tour

So, as Rachael, one of the many amazing receptionists at The Old White Lion, explained in her last post, we have a new blogger.

And that new blogger is me. I won't go on too much about myself as Rach pretty much summed my life up in the last post. But I am Ella, a student, blogger and aspiring journalist here to share with you, every Friday, all of the exciting things that are happening in and around the much loved OWL. And with events such as Le Tour De France, Haworth 1940's Weekend and our annual Beer Festival, there's so much that you can't afford to miss out on!

As most of you probably already know, we are situated right in the heart of the lovely village of Haworth, with history and culture right on our doorstep. So I thought, as this is my first post for you all, why don't I give you all a tour?

I know what you're thinking, some of you reading this could be miles away, how could you possibly give me a tour? Well, don't speak to soon. We have literally put our home on the map, pardon the pun. Using the same technology as Google Maps we have managed to give our customers (and future-customers) a real life look around our place. So why don't you take the time on this lovely Friday afternoon to take a look around our humble abode, just give this link a click and it'll put you right on through.

It's freaky how real it actually is...

The only downside is you can't try any of our amazing food, local ales or have a nice lie down in any 14 of our en suite bedrooms.

You'll have to come and visit us for that...

WHAT IS STEAMPUNK?

With the Steampunk weekend upon us in November many of us are asking ourselves "What's it all about" We have all seen pictures and me in particular is very intrigued in the strange costumes and attire.

Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or
quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes.

Come along in November and be amazed by the artwork of it all

Every garment is a work of art

Weird but wonderful
