WHAT IS STEAMPUNK?

 

With the Steampunk weekend upon us in November many of us are asking ourselves "What's it all about" We have all seen pictures and me in particular is very intrigued in the strange costumes and attire.

 

Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or

quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes.

Wow how things change, don't know exactly when this photograph was taken but the hotel had a different name back then it was known has "Bronte Bed & Breakfast" tariffs back then were unbelievably cheap £1.75 for a double room and thats including an English Breakfast .  
Really what can you get for £1.75 nowadays?

Oh my this year is flying by "Where does time go ?" Its nearly that time again, i will whisper it Christmas.
Yule time in Haworth this year starts with the famous Scroggling the Holly



 Torchlight Weekend not to be missed the famous cobbled street is lit up with old fashioned torches the atmosphere is electric. There is something for everybody every weekend throughout December.

Well its been a while since our last Blog. Things have been quite hectic here at the OWL at the beginning of June we started with the wedding season which I mentioned in our last blog. Then  mid June we had the Bronte Society AGM which we all look forward to each year seeing  all the familiar faces and different characters. This year we had a surprise guest at the fund raising auction to every bodies surprise Christa Ackroyd appeared from "Look North" she did the auctioning for the evening which went down a treat.

Then at the end of June we were awarded a double whammy, Winner Certificate Of Excellence Award 2012 by Trip Advisor for both the Hotel & Restaurant which we are extremely proud of  we achieved the award in 2011 for the Hotel but this year to get both was a massive achievement well done to all the staff for their efforts!

We are now making our plans for Christmas and the New Year I know its seems a while away but time goes so quickly. All the menu's are now available follow this link to see further details

The 1940's Weekend is upon us

19th & 20th May - Step back in time its a fabulous weekend celebrating and commemorating the 1940s. There will be Military vechiles and Veteran displays, Land Army and evacuees Parade also evening Dances and Big Band.
